Apple Officially Announces iPhone 5S: Featured 64-bit A7 Chip, Fingerprint Sensor

Apple chief executive Tim Cook along with other senior executives launched the seventh-generation iPhone at the headquarters in Cupertino, California. iPhone 5S was the Smartphone to be launched at the event-The Most Forward-Thinking Smartphone ever; the company also launched a cheaper phone, the iPhone 5C as expected in rumors earlier.

Apple has integrated A7 chip in iPhone 5S so as to make it the first ever smartphone with 64-bit architecture which makes this device several times faster than its predecessor. This new chip increases the processing power of the device 56-times faster making application to run much faster. The chip also supports OpneGL ES version 3.0 which allows handset to play graphics intensive game.

As seen in the rumors, Apple has introduced a fingerprint scanner with the name, “Touch ID”, to securely unlock your phone just with the touch of a finger. This feature uses a laser cut sapphire crystal, together with the capacitive touch sensor, which takes a high-resolution image of your finger print and then scrutinizes it intelligently from every angle to provide accurate result. The fingerprint information is stored securely in the Secure Enclave inside the A7 chip. It’s never stored on Apple servers or backed up to iCloud. Touch ID can also be used as a secure way to approve purchases from the iTunes Store, App Store or iBooks Store.

“iPhone 5s is the most forward-thinking smartphone in the world, delivering desktop class architecture in the palm of your hand,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5s sets a new standard for smartphones, packed into its beautiful and refined design are breakthrough features that really matter to people, like Touch ID, a simple and secure way to unlock your phone with just a touch of your finger.”

The device contains an 8-megapixel iSight Camera with a new aperture sensor f/2.2, which is 15 percent larger than previous one. iPhone 5s also includes a new Burst Mode, Slo-Mo video with 120 fps, a new FaceTime® HD camera for better low-light performance and audio-only FaceTime calls with iOS 7. iPhone 5s introduces the new True Tone flash—the world’s first for any camera—that variably adjusts color and intensity for over 1,000 combinations, so photos taken with a flash appear more natural.

iPhone 5S has been made available in three different colors- gold, silver, and space-gray, and three memory variants 16GB, 32GB and 64GB costing $199, $299, and $399 respectively (US). iPhone 5S and iPhone 5S will be available from Sept. 20th in the stores at US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore and the UK. The company also clarified that the devices would be available in over 100 countries by Dec. 2013.

The company promise a 10 hours 3G talk time, LTE and Wi-Fi browsing, and 250 hours standby. The devices supports up to 13 LTE wireless brands; and  dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi support for up to 150 Mbps² and Bluetooth 4.0. iPhone 5s.

The device runs on its latest mobile operating system iOS 7. Also company says that iOS 7 mobile operating system would be available for free on Sept. 18 for iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini, and 5th gen iPod touch.

iPhone 5S comes with many features including Control Center, Notification Center, improved Multitasking, AirDrop, enhanced Photos, Safari, Siri and iTunes Radio.
